China by DeathPwnie China by DeathPwnie
A hypothetical flag for China (PRC) if it ever decides to be free of itself. A solid block of red at the hoist, a solid block of blue on the fly, the whole flag charged with a Chinese dragon in the negative space between hoist and fly. Red for luck, blue for perpetuity, white for age (negative space to the rescue!), China being the oldest unified nation still in existence (though it has gone through some changes in government in the last century or so). Not a flag for Taiwan, probably, Taiwan gets it's own flag later (when I get around to making it). An earlier version of this flag accidentally looked exactly like Ecuador's so I had to change it, and Ecuador's flag is beautiful, I've noticed.

Amazing. I wish I were that talented. If it isn't blocked I hope some rebels come across it.

I want this to become a reality! This flag is too cool. I also like that you made the Manchurian dragon a white silhouette, the simplistic take fits with modern flags.

Really neat design. Personally I'd change the red to orange though, to avoid the resemblance to sports logos

Perhaps. I hadn't thought of that before. But why orange?

I meant to say yellow, because yellow was the colour of the Chinese Imperials

Not bad, but, I don't mean to hurt you, but you shouldn't trouble yourself to make another flag  for Taiwan, in my personal opinion the previous flag of Taiwan with the golden tiger, before the japanese occupation and the period under the ROC(Republic of China), it's definetely the best!!!

I already made a flag for Taiwan a long time ago, but I don't really like it anymore. deathpwnie.deviantart.com/art/…

I think the golden tiger is a good symbol, but it doesn't really work as a flag. Maybe I'll make another Taiwan flag with an updated golden tiger.

Nice, but remember the Chinese generally hate the Qing. Many even refuse to acknowledge it being Chinese.

I expect the Mao Dynasty will be equally denied in a century or so.

Nah a century is too long. It's ideological disloyalty will have it down in fifty years at least and then the Kuomintang and their government and symbols shall return.

A little too reminiscent of Major League logos (and to a lesser extent Pepsi).

This is a great flag, but I'm afraid it looks a lot like a Pepsi logo.

Indeed. The only tricolores I find "acceptable" are those relating to France: Italy, French Africa etc (which does lead to problems when much of Africa insists on using the same colours however).

I guess we have history to thank for so, so many boring flags. But then again even in the rare cases when people were actually commissioned to design a flag they look horrid (see US). Most beautiful real flag is the Hong Kong one in my opinion and they arenīt even a country.

Well, I don't know about the MOST beautiful, but its definitely in my top five.

Not that I actually HAVE an official top five, but it's way up there somewhere, right next to the Union Jack, the Sinimustvalge, and the Hinomaru.

And go easy on commissions, they might not be quite as inspired, but inspiration's not all its cracked up to be when you've got a professional on the job. A perfect example, the Union Jack. As I understand it, James VI pulled a couple of designs out of his ass a couple days before his coronation to the thrones of both England and Scotland just so he could have his own flag.

Yeah well I guess for me the thing about flag is that they are all very similar. Most of the use rectangle shapes (or the very, very popular three colored stripes design) and it gets really boring, really fast. I was on a Erasmus-party (a party for Exchange students) recently and everyone painted his home flag on his cheek. And really about 90% had the three stripes thing going. Which is why I prefer flags that deviate from that, the Japanese flag as you mentioned is pretty cool and part of it is itīs rare round design. I like the colors of the flag of Estonia but find it boring nonetheless due to the three stripes design.
As said Hong Kong gets the nod for me because of the unique design and the beauty of the execution. Most countryīs presidential flag or seals are more beautiful as well because the contain another design element. Other favorites are definitely Bhutan (which is really similar to your China design), Nepal (because the flag isnīt even a rectangle) and Kazakhstan which is really growing on me.
